Physical Exam

Why is your pet’s routine wellness visit so important?

Routine wellness visits are a great way for your veterinarian to ensure that your pet can live a healthy life for as long as possible. These visits can help us catch any potential health issues earlier on, and may help you avoid any additional costs associated with treatments if a disease goes undetected.

A typical wellness visit will/ may include:

A Physical Examination

Dr. Dev will examine your pet for any changes in their teeth, weight, joints, skin, eyes and ears. Based on the examination and Dr, Dev’s findings, he and the client will discuss further treatment options that are right for the animal.

Diagnostic Screening Tests

We will check your pet’s internal health. These tests may include fecal testing or blood testing. These results help us manage and track your pet’s overall health.

A Review of Results

We look for changes in results from year-to-year. Changes can act as early warning signs of health cocerns or irregularities.

Although every individual may choose to follow what ever vaccination protocol they wish, the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) recommends an annual physical examination once a year. This acts as a foundation for positive preventive care of your dog. The CVMA also will recommend that senior dogs, over 7 years old, should be seen by their veterinarian twice a year.

Vaccines

Vaccinations are an integral part of pet health and it is important that your pet is vaccinated, in accordance to the guidelines set by the veterinary associations. There are some local by-laws regarding the vaccination against Rabies. The rabies vaccination can last from one year to three years depending on the type of vaccination used.

Other vaccinations that are commonly used for dogs, are Distemper, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza, Bordetella, Leptospirosis and Lyme disease. Cat vaccinations include Feline Distemper, Feline Herpes Virus and Calici Virus.

Our veterinarian will work with the client to customize the vaccinations needed for the pet.

Fourth Line Animal Hospital follows recent guide lines regarding the frequency of vaccinations needed and required.
