What is a spay surgery and a neuter surgery?
An ovariohysterectomy procedure (spay) involves the removal of the uterus and ovaries of a female animal. A gonadectomy procedure (neuter) involves the removal of the testicles of a male animal.
These are both important services to control pet population and the quality of life for the pet. This surgery is performed by the veterinarian and in most cases, the pet is ready for pickup the same day! Dr. Dev suggest that your pets be spayed or neutered at about 8 months old. The pet is monitored by a technician and the veterinarian while the pet is under anesthetic.
Your pet will likely go home with some pain medication and the CONE OF SHAME, as most people like to call it. No need to worry! Your pet will adjust quite quickly and in 7-10 days they can take the cone off. This cone is very important to ensure that your pet does not lick at his or her incision, which can lead to unwanted infections.
